I had problems with my apples oozing juice from where the stick is inserted. What do you suggest for that. My caramel was good, my chocolate was good, my candy dip was good, but all oozed juice near the stick and ruined the caramel, the choc and the candy.

Chocolate covered apples are becoming popular and trendy. Entire stores are devoted to the things! But don't go spending exorbitant amounts of money at a store when you can make them in minutes at home. Here's how.

Giving fruit and nuts for the holidays has been a tradition for centuries. For an updated version, we are dipping pears and apples in chocolate and coating them in assorted toppings, giving them a festive flair.

These Halloween chocolate covered apple slices are a fun treat for kiddos of all ages. Slightly more healthy than your average treat but still a little decadent. What I like about this is it is pretty quick to make and the size is just right for little ones. I did find it took a long time for the chocolate coating to set and after putting it into the fridge it did spread a bit.

Line a large baking sheet with wax paper. Wash apples well and remove their stems. Once apples are fully dried, insert a chop stick deep into the core of each apple and place them in the refrigerator until needed. In a large bowl, combine the milk chocolate and dark chocolate, and melt in the microwave in 30 second increments (a double boiler would also work). Once all the lumps are gone and chocolate is completely smooth (really mix it well), dip each apple and roll it in the chocolate until completely covered. Allow excess chocolate to drip off the apple for a few seconds before rolling it in the toppings then placing it on the wax paper covered baking sheet. Once all apples are dipped and dressed in toppings, refrigerate until the chocolate is set.

Put the apples in a heatproof bowl and pour over boiling water from the kettle. Drain carefully, and wash under hot water to remove any residual wax on the skin. This helps the chocolate stick better. Pat dry with kitchen paper, remove the stalks and push a lolly stick or skewer in its place.

Line a baking tray or large board with baking parchment. Hold the apples by their sticks and dunk into the melted chocolate. Use a spoon to coat the tops of the apples if you like. Once the apples are completely coated, hold over the bowl for a few seconds for excess chocolate to drip back into it, then place, stick pointing up, onto the prepared tray. Leave to set for a minute or two.

Tip the decorations into separate bowls. When the chocolate on the apples is just starting to set but not fully firm, sprinkle the decorations onto the apples. Hold them on their side and rotate using the stick to completely cover. Place back on the tray and leave until completely set.

If using the white and dark chocolate to decorate, heat each separately, as you did the milk chocolate in step 1, then leave to cool slightly. Melt the dark chocolate first, then when the chocolate apples are set hard, use a teaspoon to drizzle this over them, again holding the stick so the apple is on its side and rotating the apple. Have a sheet of baking parchment underneath to catch any drips. Place back on the tray and leave to set, then repeat the process using the white chocolate. Will keep in an airtight container in a cool place for two days.

One of our favorite fall treats, these chocolate covered apple slices are a wonderful dessert idea for your harvest or halloween party. Kids love to help make these so you could also make this and activity part of your classroom or event party. The topping ideas are endless and guest will love these delicious candy apple treats that are so much easier to eat than caramel apples, but just as good - if not better!

Return to fridge to let set.Microwave white chips for 45 seconds on 70% power, stirring until smooth. OR alternatively you can place the white chips into a ziplock sandwich bag and microwave. Knead until smooth. Drizzle with a spoon onto your apples or cut the tip of the bag and drizzle onto your apples.Top with m&ms and chopped pecans as desired. Return to fridge until ready to serve.

1 apple makes about 4 slices. I discarded/ate the ends that were round but you can certainly dip them. Have at least one extra apple if you are trying to make a specific number of apples. Sometimes you'll mis-slice the slit for the stick or it will break. This recipe will make 6-8 apple slices. You'll probably run out of chocolate first so grab two bags if you want more!

Candy apples (or toffee apples) are really popular when it turns to autumn, but we are a fan of the chocolate apple ourselves. But, they are so hard to eat, especially for little mouths, which is why we prefer these chocolate apple slices instead.
